Multicultural Competency

A Training Resource
By James J. Messina, Ph.D.

To better prepare yourself for working in a Multicultural World  why not spend some time online immersing yourselves in to the cultures of specific populations you most likely will encounter during your working career in this country.

Step 1: Watch videos listed for the specific population group first before you proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Once you have finished viewing the videos for the specific population group answer the following 3 discussion questions for yourself and your own personal growth in multicultural counseling competency.

Cultural Immersion Discussion Questions:

What have you learned that our society needs to teach its youth about this target population group if we are ever to have equality among and between the different races, cultures, genders, sexual orientations, religions, ages etc. in the United States?

What has this specific experience taught you about your own stereotypes, prejudices, and attitudes about and emotional responses to the people in this specific ethnic and cultural population group?

How will this new learning assist you to become a more competent multicultural counselor, in counseling with people from this population group?
